Projects

I used to be fairly active in the project department... However work and a relationship has consumed my life and my personal projects have suffered. Things are changing now, and I have a little more motivation to spend time on my projects after hours again. We should hopefully see a little more action here.

Home Automation

I am currently in the process of getting fairly complete automation of our house here in PA. Using Indigo 2.x as a base, pulling in various other technologies using applescript and a bit of know-how. Full control for lighting, window shades, heating/cooling and access control is planned.

The technologies I have in use are:

  • Insteon
  • Dakota
  • AKCP Sensorprobe 8
  • Axis Networked Cameras
  • Security Spy
  • Nagios
  • Cacti
  • Asterisk

Rival Messenger [inactive]

Rival was a long running project, written in VB. It spanned 5 versions and had quite a lot of public success. Started January 2001, it was one of few Jabber clients at the time.

It was one of my first serious development endeavors that had interaction with other developers. At that time, the Jabber community was a very fun and exciting place to be. So Rival development was very quick paced, with a lot of functionality added on a daily basis.

I stopped working on Rival when I made the transition to Mac. I think eventually I will pick it up again as it was a unique user experience, something that hasnt been introduced to OS X yet.

Music Directory [dead]

This was my first useful PHP project. It was a single script that you placed in the root of a directory structure that contained mp3s.

It would render the folder with directories and id3 info of any mp3 that happened to be there... It translated all directories in to an internal url structure and worked really well.

It also created automatic playlists of what you were looking at, and offered you to download the contents of the current directory as a tar.
